Pine Cove Marina on Lewiston Lake helps raise funds for the cage culture project. The project was started by Fish and Game as a way to introduce larger fish into the already healthy fishery. This project begins with obtaining small fingerling rainbow trout from the hatchery at the end of the summer. The fish are then housed in 12x12 pens, which are located at the north end of the dock at the marina, until July when they are released into the open.
Highway 299 is open from the coast. Highway 299 from Redding is complete and now takes about 40 minutes from downtown. Lewiston Lake offers –650 acres of fishable water, with 15 miles of shoreline. The water temperature is a constant 45° to 50° which makes it a perfect habitat for rainbow and brown trout. The water level never changes which gives the lake a tree line that is reminiscent of an east coast lake. This is a crowd free zone, with many days showing only one or two boats on the entire lake. If you are looking to get away this is the place to be. It is also a terrific spot to watch bald eagles and other exotic bird life.
Please come out to help support the cage culture project, we would love to help you catch fish by giving you the latest tips on what is working and where to find the big ones. Pine Cove Maria rents patio and fishing boats as well as kayaks and canoes. Bait, beer, soda, ice cream and sundries can be found in the shop. Fly fishermen can come in and purchase locally made flies, with a few that are exclusively made for catching Lewiston Lake trout.
